ahead

When you lose control of your vehicle, the way to safety is this: focus your gaze on where you want to go. The problem is, the mind has a funny habit of fixating on that which we wish to avoid.

We can spend our lonely moments thinking about the things we’re afraid of. The things that hurt--the things we’re scared of losing. And in doing so, hold those targets in our minds until we smash right the fuck into them.

But what if next time you’re skidding down the road, rather than reacting by slamming the wheel hard to the right and then back hard to the left, you try something different. What if you look out in front and find someplace you’d rather go.

Of course, you may still crash. But by keeping your eyes on the open road ahead, you stand a much better chance of making it through, right-side up.
